MEEKER | HayDay was the theme of Vacation Bible School 2024 at the White River Methodist Church (809 Park Ave.) in Meeker.
More than 50 attended the three-day ranch-themed event complete with barn, hay and animal decorations; Oreo tractor wheels, popcorn and haystack snacks; apple dunking, dummy calf roping and potato sack games; garden pokes, rock art and sun catcher crafts; plus exciting Bible Adventures and “moosic”! Volunteer “Crew Leaders” guided the Wrangler, Cowpokes and Field Hands — mixed age groups — to each station, assisting the person in charge and giving the kids a fun summer experience.
The event was concluded on July 14 with VBS Sunday, a well-attended kid/youth-led service – sharing their songs and Bible verse with the congregation and parents and hosting a reception afterwards.
Community “ranch-related” projects during VBS were:
• A visit from the local Farm.ily with Dessa Watson on the last afternoon, reading her book, “Ewe Be Ewe, and educating the children on sheep, llamas and goats. The church purchased books to hand out to all the children after they interacted with the animals and as a souvenir of their HayDay experience. This book can be purchased online or from Dessa Watson.• Creating a Community Rock Garden under the historic Church Bell at 8th and Park. The sign reads: “Take a Rock for motivation. Leave a Rock for inspiration. Be Kind. Kindness Rocks!” Everyone is welcome to participate.
• Bringing change each day to help support a local 4-H Club.
• Donating their clay garden pokes to the planter boxes at the Pioneer Medical Wing.
Pastor Cherie Cobb and the congregation thanks all who came and invites you to visit anytime.
Worship services are 10 a.m. every Sunday at 809 Park Ave.
