Wren leads Rangely at state cross country championships

RANGELY | The Rangely High School Panthers closed out their cross-country season with strong performances at the CHSAA 2A State Championships at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.

Junior Taya Wren continued her outstanding season by finishing 6th overall in 19 minutes, 35 seconds, securing another top-10 result on one of the state’s toughest courses. Sophomore Kira Jo Benson also represented Rangely in the girls’ race, placing 99th in 23:47.9, showing steady improvement throughout the season.

On the boys’ side, Rangely placed 19th as a team with a total of 288 points. Kyler Fouts led the way in 55th place (18:32.7), followed by Tavan Morgan in 78th (19:01.2), Joseph Valdez in 112th (19:47.6), Titus Friedrich in 131st (20:40.9), Gage Nielsen in 138th (21:33.0), and Antonio Prieto in 139th (21:33.5).

“State always brings out the best competition, and our runners rose to the challenge,” said Rangely coach Beth Scoggins. “Taya ran with confidence from the start, and our boys showed great teamwork and determination through every mile.”

The 2A team championships went to Ridgway on the girls’ side and Golden View Classical Academy for the boys. With both Panther squads returning key contributors, Rangely enters the offseason with momentum and optimism for 2026.
