Meeker High School senior wrestler Sammy Palmer practices a turk on teammate Christopher Strate, as does Daylon Nielsen on assistant coach Carl Padilla during one of the first practices of the season. The season officially started Nov. 12, when most Meeker wrestlers were still playing football. The Cowboys, who finished as the 1A state runners-up last year, will begin their quest to win the program’s eighth team state championship when they open the season in Grand Junction on Dec. 5 at the Colorado Mesa University duals. Cowboy senior T.J. Shelton will also be on a quest to become Meeker’s first ever four-time state wrestling champion.
