MEEKER | “The Methodist Youth Fellowship presented to the Church in May of 1962 a handsome outdoor church bulletin board, tastefully framed in brick and electrically illuminated.
The bulletin board was placed at an angle on the south-east corner of the building, at Eighth and Park streets, where it could be easily seen by the passing motorist or pedestrian. The bulletin board replaced an earlier wooden sign that had stood to the right of the steps leading to the entry-way that had merely borne the indication that this was the ‘Methodist Church.’ The new bulletin board allowed for the name of the Church and in addition the hours of Church School and Worship, the pastor’s name, and the sermon title for the forthcoming Sunday.” From the document: History of the Meeker Methodist Church 1893 – 1968. (In 1968, the Meeker Methodist Church turned 75 years old. A detailed historical document was prepared for the occasion by the current pastor, Sheridan M. Mallott)
The White River Methodist Church Youth, on Sept. 15, 2024, participated in a landscaping project that enhanced the new metal artwork inside the original brick frame that had been preserved from 1962. The new metal signage, which reflected the new name: White River Methodist Church, was a memorial gift from the Janice Weinholdt and Chris and Kalene Reidinger Family in memory of their mother and grandmother, Nina Mintz – a long standing member.
Aaron Weston of Meeker, Colorado, was the commissioned artist. However, upon completion, he donated the sign as a gift to the church on the corner of 8th and Park Ave, as a donation to the congregation. The young people who were involved in landscaping around the finished signage on the same corner as it was in 1962, brought the story full circle of involved and invaluable youth in this church family over the years.
