MEEKER I “They wrestled great for not having very many practices in,” Barone Middle School head wrestling coach Lee Overton said about his team’s first performance of the season. “We just have one week of routine practice.”
A contingent of 19 young Cowboys traveled to Craig last Saturday and won three of four duals, beating Steamboat Springs, Rifle and Orchard Mesa and losing to the host team. The BMS wrestling team will compete in Steamboat Springs this Saturday.
Seventh-grader Garrett Frantz (85) and eighth-graders Sheridan Harvey (95) and Casey Turner (140) each won all four of the matches they wrestled, while seventh-grader Jacob Pelloni (80) and eighth-grader Chase Rule (160) went undefeated in three of the matches they each wrestled.
Eighth-graders Josh Cochran (110), Hunter Garcia (130), Brett McGruder (145), Caleb Bradford (150) and Tyler Ilgen (Hwt.) all won three of four matches. Cole Brown won three of five matches at 115, while seventh-graders Tanner Slaugh (120) and Logan Hughes each won two matches. Tel Blanke (105), Jared Owens (145) and Clay Anderson (125) all won a match. Daylon Nielsen (100), Cody Nielsen (125) and Doak Mantle (115) all competed.
The Cowboys will wrestle in a bracketed tournament Saturday in Steamboat Springs, starting at 9 a.m.
