MEEKER I The 2011 coed softball season kicked off last week and the fields are full. Games will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights with six games most nights. Eleven participating teams include Renninger Log Homes, Rainbow Trouts, Pioneers Medical Center, Berry Brothers, The Enforcers, Schindler Plumbing, ACE trucking, ERBM Synergy, PBFD (Colowyo members), Natural Soda and Rangely Merchants. The teams will compete into August and finish the season with a tournament. The season’s starting competition was outstanding, with youth competing against some more seasoned players. With cooperative weather for the first evening of games, bats were swung and some older muscles got some exercise that may have led to soreness by the end of the week. The scheduling will be conducive to recovery as the games conclude on Wednesdays, leaving the rest of the week to recover for the next round. The Eastern Rio Blanco Recreation Department is running the league and safety is their number one goal. Only rostered players are to be in the dugouts during games. Park facilities are available for kids to play at during the games. For players, proper hydration and stretching are recommended. The league is designed to encourage recreational play and the games are intended to be competitive but fun. Lace up your cleats and enjoy the summer evenings.
