The Rio Blanco County Historical Society presented a history lesson and a couple of skits on Sunday afternoon, titled “Colorful Characters to RBC,” focusing on six well-known personalities who add to the history of our county: Calamity Jane, Eleanor Roosevelt, author Zane Grey, Theodore Roosevelt, Chief Colorow and local native-turned-actor Ken Sanderson, who went on to Hollywood and became Buddy Roosevelt, before returning to Meeker in 1968 and dying in 1973. Meeker’s Gail Rogers portrays Eleanor Roosevelt in a skit.Ethel Starbuck of Meeker, who is now approaching the century mark, telling a few tales of Eleanor Roosevelt, who was a frequent visitor to the Meeker area from 1950 to 1958.
With community help, Rangely High School track debuted the pole vault event at their home meet.
