MEEKER — As part of the fifth annual Winter Games held Saturday, Feb. 28, the ERBM Rec and Park District will be featuring a free family ice fishing derby at Lake Avery in partnership with the Division of Wildlife.
The derby will last from 9 a.m. until noon. Anyone wishing to take advantage of free bus transportation to Lake Avery should meet at the MRC at 8:30 a.m. The bus will leave Avery at noon to arrive at the MRC in time for a 12:30 p.m. free hot lunch to be provided by Mose McPhail of White River Realty.
DOW personnel will be on hand at Avery to provide instruction and equipment as needed. Families are encouraged to bring their own equipment when possible.
The derby is for all ages. However, a fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and over. Day licenses can be purchased locally before Feb. 28.
No license is required for spectators.
