MEEKER — To ring in the new year, Meeker’s FCCLA chapter visited Walbridge Wing residents to make some delicious treats Jan. 2.
Eight FCCLA members took about two hours to sit down with the residents and decorate cookies made by Jean Gianinetti. While everyone talked and laughed, they frosted holiday shaped cookies. They even got to eat a couple. Both the residents and FCCLA members alike enjoyed the event.
Early in February, the FCCLA chapter hosted the winter district meeting. The Grand Valley chapter joined the Meeker group at the administration building Feb. 5. FCCLA members presented their STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events to a panel of judges. The judges would then decide which groups were prepared to compete at the state convention.
During the day, members also attended workshops and icebreakers geared toward learning about FCCLA and meeting new people. Some members decided to run for a district office, and those people were interviewed. The results were: president of the High Country District Meg Nieslanik; vice-president Megan Ridings; and secretary Morgan Neilson. District was a great success and all but one group will go on to compete at state.
