Five Rangely athletes headed to state track meet this weekend

RANGELY I The Rangely High School Track and Field team had its last regular meet of the season on Saturday at Cedaredge. It was a meet with lots of new personal bests and some heartbreak as some athletes hoping to have one more meet weren’t able to qualify for state.

The Rangely track and field program will be taking four boys and one girl to the state track meet.
Senior Kaulan Brady will be leading the team in the 100-meter dash, high jump and long jump.
Junior Troy Allred will participate in the triple jump.
Sophomore Patrick Scoggins qualified for state in the 100 dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. He will not run the 100 because of conflicting times in other events.
Brennan Noyes, also a sophomore, will be jumping in the high jump and triple jump.
For the girls, Katelyn Brown, a sophomore, will be competing in the triple jump.
At Cedaredge, Phalon Osborn started the Panther girls off with a new personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.83. Next to race for the girls was the 4×200-meter relay team made up of Aspen Rhea, Phalon Osborn, Katelyn Brown and Lindzey Thacker, who were able to improve their time to 1:55.06, but not quite enough to qualify for state. Raelynn Norman ran the 1600-meters in a time of 6:15.13 then ran the 800 and got a new personal best of 2:47.36.
Aspen Rhea also got a new personal best in the 200 dash of 29.44. The girls were able to put together a 4×400-meter relay made up of Kassidee Brown, Phalon Osborn, Raelynn Norman and Aspen Rhea. They placed eighth with a time of 4:58.59.
In the field events, Makenze Cochrane was the only girl to get a mark in the discus with a throw of 84-2, and then she threw a 29-9 in the shot put.
Breanna Davis was able to get a personal best in the shot with a throw of 28-9.25 while Mikayla Filfred got a new personal best with a throw of 26-5.25. For jumps, Lindzey Thacker jumped 4-5, Katelyn Brown long jumped for 14-3 while Aspen Rhea jumped 13-2.25.
For the boys, Kaulan Brady ran the 100 dash, placing eighth with a time of 11.82, followed closely by Patrick Scoggins with a time of 11.86.
Marshall Webber ran a new personal best in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. His time was 20.60 for the high hurdles and 47.72 in the 300.
Scoggins also ran the 200 dash, placing second with a new personal best of 23.63.
Brennan Noyes also ran the 200 dash with a time of 26.68, which is a season best.
The boys were able to put a 4×100 relay team together made up of Daniel Connor, Kaulan Brady, Troy Allred and Patrick Scoggins. They placed eighth with a time of 47.24.
There was also a 4×400 relay team made up of Daniel Connor, Troy Allred, David Fox and Patrick Scoggins. They improved their time by nine seconds for a time of 3:44.75 and placed fourth.
Both relays were hoping to make it to state but, unfortunately, they weren’t quite fast enough, coach Beth Scoggins said.
For throwers, Chance Sheppard led the team in the discus and shot put. He threw a personal best in the discus for a distance of 120-11, which had him placing seventh, and 38-9.75, a personal best in the shot put.
Austin Ficken threw 37-10 in the shot and 105-07 in the discus, and both were personal bests.
Troy Allred long jumped for a distance of 18-10.50, placing fifth, and then triple jumped 39-10.5 for third place.
Brennan Noyes triple jumped for a distance of 38-9, placing third.
