Letter to the Editor: Nicksons awesome representatives for Rangely

Dear Editor:
Approximately three to four weeks ago after leaving the store in Loma, we were headed for a small RV park they told us about in Rangely. We were not prepared for what followed.

My wife and I were caught in a terrific rain storm as we were traveling over Douglas Pass in our small motor home. After several stops on the pass, we made it into this little camper park in the middle of the night (at 11:30 p.m.). It was dark, raining so hard and visibility was so bad. We saw the camp host sign, but being so late we attempted to find a space on our own.
After making several turns through the park, our headlights picked up a man standing out in front of the camp host sign flagging us down in a total downpour.
He helped us get into a space and get hooked up. Then his wife came over. She was in a leg brace, and actually helped my wife who was somewhat distraught.
They assured us we were safe and they would check on us in the morning. The last thing we saw was the two of them holding hands helping each other back to their camper.
This was not the end.
Still raining the next morning, we found we had a flat. In preparing to make the change, we discovered our spare was also flat. When it rains it pours—right?
Anyway, Richard Nickson came to our rescue again. Took tires, had them fixed, helped change tires and got us back on the road. His wife, Kay, sat with my wife and assured her everything would be fine and that we’d be on the road for home soon.
I can’t express my thanks for this woman’s help—as my wife was so very upset.
They were right, soon we were headed for home. The last we saw was the Nicksons waving goodbye as we left the park, with them standing in the rain.
Need we say more?
We tried to pay these folks, but they wouldn’t take any money. They said they were just doing their job, and that they just wanted to make our stay as comfortable as they could. They told us that when a time comes for us to help someone, just pass the help on.
Don’t think we’ll ever forget that advice.
Therefore, we want you to know the appreciation we have for our treatment in Rangely and for these fine folks who so helped us in our time of need.
Our hope is you will pass the good word back to the Nicksons.
We have been traveling during the summers for the past six years and have never, never come across camp hosts such as them
The Nicksons represent Rangely in a way you need to be proud of.
Mr. and Mrs. Dover Sr.
