Dear Editor:
We would like to thank the many people who helped during and after the 4-H community pen fire on Monday afternoon.
Vicky Pfennig and Linda Farney called 911, released pigs and kept water on the pens until the fire department arrived. We are grateful to members of the Rangely Police Department, Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Rangely Rural Fire Protection District, Town of Rangely and Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Department for their help and support in so many ways.
A huge thank you also goes out to Crandal Mergelman of Rangely Junior/Senior High School and Bill Ekstrom with the CSU Extension Office, who assisted with the animals, as well as parents, friends, and community members who came to help however they could.
This coming Saturday at 9 a.m., we invite volunteers to join us in cleaning up the pen and supporting 4-H members who have lost their animals.
Anyone who would like to help financially with animal and building replacement costs can do so to the Rangely 4-H Council (office located in the Rio Blanco County Annex Building) or by contacting coordinator Jayda Lewis at 878-9499.
Thank you again for the incredible community response to this tragedy.
