RBC I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Meeker United Methodist Church’s Elbert Hall to discuss a variety of issues.
A major project for 2014 includes ongoing follow-up on the application for designation of Meeker as a creative district by Colorado Creative Industries, a division of the Colorado State Office of Economic Development. Creative districts are eligible for grants and substantial promotion and publicity for local areas through heritage and agri-tourism, which are top economic development engines in Colorado.
Other topics will be the evaluation of the Meekerpalooza, which was held June 7, and summer performing arts events. The ERBM Recreation and Park District officials will be on hand to discuss future involvement and support of the annual event.
A proposed field trip to the Colorado Shakespeare Festival at the University of Colorado at Boulder and other performing arts venues and productions during the fall ares being considered for MACC members and for the youth members of the MACC Venturing Crew 91 and Explorer Club 91.
The CU Shakespeare Festival runs from mid-June through mid-August and is a nationally renowned production featuring the works of Shakespeare in repertory during the season. The performance venue is the Marr Rippon Outdoor Theater located on the CU campus near the University Memorial Center. (see website: www.coloradoshakes.org/)
Other possible field trips proposed may include the Vail and Aspen summer music festivals, the Creede Repertory Theater and more.
MACC theatrical production proposals for fall and spring 2014-2015 will also be considered and discussed.
The public’s help is also needed.
MACC is providing high-quality performing arts entertainment for the Meeker community but cannot do it alone. If you want to see these great opportunities in your home town, please get involved, support and participate in this worthwhile effort.
Youth, adults and seniors are welcome and invited to participate and help plan exciting performing and fine arts activities such as dinner theaters, performing arts outreach seminars, support of school and ERBM District drama programs, community events, program planning and much more.
Possible grant funding from philanthropic foundations will be discussed along with performing and fine arts venue discussions.
