MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Meeker United Methodist Church Elbert Hall with a wide variety of topics on the agenda.
A major project for 2014 includes ongoing followup on the application for designation of Meeker as a Creative District by the Colorado Creative Industries, a division of the Colorado State Office of Economic Development. Creative Districts are eligible for grants and substantial promotion and publicity for local areas through heritage and agri-tourism, which are top economic development engines in Colorado.
A resolution to support the Rio Blanco County Historical Society resolution supporting designation of downtown Meeker as a state of Colorado and U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service national historic district will be discussed and proposed for adoption.
Other agenda items include evaluation of Meeker Palooza on June 7 and summer performing arts events. ERBM Recreation and Parks have been invited to discuss future involvement and support of the annual event.
A proposed field trip to the at the University of Colorado in Boulder and other performing arts venues and productions during the fall are being considered for MACC members and for the youth members of the MACC Venturing Crew 91 and Explorer Club 91.
CU’s Shakespeare Festival anti-bullying program for k-12 students is a proposed offering for March 2015 for Meeker schools and needs to be scheduled very soon as openings are rapidly filling. No bookings are available for this fall’s season. See www.coloradoshakes.org/education/csf-schools.
Other possible field trips proposed may include the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Temple Buell Theater productions, Grand Junction theater project [featuring “Grease” this weekend and the following weekend) and much more.
MACC theatrical production proposals for fall and spring 2014-1015 will also be considered and discussed.
