MEEKER I Sierra Williams and Kenzie Turner will compete in the state’s Math Counts contest. They were members of Barone Middle School’s four-person team that competed Saturday in Grand Junction. Their road to state began with approximately 30 students participating in Meeker for one of the four spots on the regional team. Meeker’s team consisted of Eli Newman, Madeline Amack, Kenzie Turner and Sierra Williams. The contest in Grand Junction was broken into four parts: a sprint round consisting of 30 questions, a target round (four sets of a series of two questions), a team round with 10 questions for the team to answer together, and then a countdown round which is the top ten students competing head to head to determine the overall winners. The top 10 students from the regional tournament advance to the state competition, with the top four from state advancing to a national event. Williams and Turner were among the top competitors and both plan to attend the regional contest in Denver on March 9. Congratulations to all participants.
