MEEKER — Are you newly enrolled with Medicare? Effective January 2009, you will have 12-months to complete your “Welcome Exam.”
The “Welcome Exam” also known as Medicare’s Initial Preventive Physical Exam (IPPE) is available at the Meeker Family Health Center and includes:
n Review of your medical history
n Check your blood pressure, weight and height
n Order an Electrocard-iogram (EKG) — optional
n Review and make sure you are up-to-date on immunizations and other shots
n Advice on how to prevent disease, improve health and stay well
n Receive a written plan (a checklist) with other suggested screenings and preventative service you should receive.
n Receive a complete physical
What will this initial exam cost?
As a Medicare patient you pay 20 percent of the Medicare approved amount after you meet the yearly deductible ($110 for 2005). Since this may be your first Medicare-covered service, you may meet your entire Part B deductible at this visit. Therefore you may need to pay $110 and then 20 percent of any remaining balance.
What should I bring with me to the appointment?
You should have completed the Medicare History form (www.billingsclinic.com) and the Depression Screening form (www.billingsclinic.com), a copy of your medical records, and any medications you are currently taking.

Who is eligible for Medicare?
Medicare is health insurance for people age 65 or older, under age 65 with certain disabilities, and any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant).
