MEEKER I Meeker School Superintendent Mark Meyer announced Tuesday that the three finalists for the Meeker High School principal position will be interviewed Monday, and one of the three is Meeker High School Athletic Director Brett Steinacher.
At a meeting of the District Accountability Committee (DAC) on Tuesday, Meyer said the three candidates to be interviewed are Kelly Boren and Tim McNerney, both from Front Range schools, and Brett Steinacher, the current MHS athletic director.
Meyer said the three were chosen from among 11 applicants with a wide range of experience. Some, Meyer reported, have been principals, some have their licenses, some are working on their principal’s license, while others are still two years from their licenses.
Meyer and current high school principal Kim Ibach have both resigned, effective June 30.
Meyer has been pushing for the hiring of a new high school principal.
When asked why this process couldn’t wait until new superintendent Chris Selle is actually on the job, beginning July 1, Meyer responded that the pool of possible candidates is much richer now.
The committee selected by Meyer to interview the candidates includes John Strate, Klark Kindler, Bob Amick, Stacy Hudelson, Jim Hanks, Kathy Collins, Ibach, himself and two students.
In addition, incoming superintendent Chris Selle will be traveling from Westcliffe for the interviews. Selle won’t actually participate in the interviews, but will observe.
Amy Chinn, a Meeker High School counselor, spoke to the school board Tuesday. She stated that she had been one of the 11 applicants and was very disappointed not to be given an interview.
She added that rather than having received even a courtesy call from the district, she found out she was not to be interviewed due to Meyer’s announcement of the finalists at the DAC meeting.
Chinn said that while she could accept the fact she was not given an interview, she was not OK with this way of treating people.
The board made no response to Chinn’s comments.
