Meeker superintendent of schools Susan Goettel recommended the Meeker Board of Education not renew Meeker High School principal George Henderson’s contract and the board voted 5-1 in support of Goettel’s recommendation.
Henderson requested his evaluation, performed by Goettel, be read in public. Henderson, who had an attorney present, defended himself, saying, “This has been the toughest year I’ve ever had as an educator and I’ve been in education for 20 years,” in reference to the addition of three elementary grades to his building. His past three evaluations were satisfactory.
School board members did not receive copies of his evaluations by teachers and Henderson and his attorney requested the board base their decision on all information available.
Several teachers spoke in support of Henderson and Marnell Bradfield was the only board member to vote against Goettel’s recommendation.
