Obituary: Betsy Burnside Stewart

Betsy Burnside Stewart was born May 2, 1930, to Bob and Vi Burnside, the older of three children. Her parents were ranchers and she grew up in the rural area around Meeker.

Betsy started the first grade at the old Marvine School with the Sizemore kids. Her parents moved closer to town, and Betsy completed grades 2-12, having been graduated from Rio Blanco County High School in 1947. She attended one year at Mesa College in Grand Junction.
On Thanksgiving Day in 1948, Betsy married Bryan Stewart at the Methodist Church in Meeker. Their wedding reception was Thanksgiving dinner for the entire extended family. To this union were born two children, JoNell (Jody) and Randy.
Bryan worked in the oil field and construction, and they moved many times over the years, having lived the past 20 years in Albuquerque, N.M.
Betsy excelled at almost everything she tried and is most remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her excellent cooking ability and the love and devotion to her family and friends. In her last years, she remained courageous and positive in the face of great disability.
Betsy is survived by: her husband of 66 years and long-time caregiver, Bryan; her two children, two granddaughters and her sister, Pat White; plus a host of extended family and friends who will miss her very much.
A memorial service was held in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday, July 17, 2015, and internment will be at Fort Logan Military Cemetery at a later date.

  1. If she married Bryan Stewart (for 66 years) wouldn’t her name be Stewart not Steward/

  2. Thank you for your feedback, Jan. The error has been corrected on the web post.
