Obituary: Don Zeigler Jan. 13, 1930 ~ April 30, 2011

Donald Glenn Zeigler was born to Chester L. and Rose O. Zeigler on Jan. 13, 1930, on a farm in the San Luis Valley of Colorado between Center and Monte Vista. His life ended peacefully on April 30, 2011, at his home in Fort Collins.
Don spent his young life going to school in Del Norte, Colo. His main interest was in sports and he became a good basketball player, eventually playing four years for Adams State College in Alamosa. After earning his bachelor’s degree in history, Don joined the United States Army for two years with part of that time spent in Korea.
Don returned to civilian life and became a school teacher in Saguache, Colo. He eventually became the principal of the K-8 school which also included teaching and coaching. He helped establish the junior high athletic programs. He eventually earned his master’s degree from Adams State.
Don married Ruth Marie McKibben on Aug. 13, 1960, and started a family. Son Kenneth was born in 1962 and son Richard was born in 1963. In 1966 the family moved to the northwest Colorado town of Meeker for 26 years. Don was a teacher of history, social studies and driver’s education. He also coached the basketball team for several years and assisted with track. Don retired from teaching after 30 years in 1985 and in 1992 he and Ruth moved to Fort Collins. Son Richard lives in Fort Collins and son Kenneth lives in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Don and Ruth enjoyed visiting with friends and traveling the western United States during their retirement. Don found so much joy in being with his grandchildren Tylynn, Tarissa, Keelan and Kenna.
Services were held May 5, at the Allnutt Funeral Home in Fort Collins. Don was buried in the Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Collins.
