Elizabeth Backes
Elizabeth (Liz) Irene Backes, our beloved mom, grandma (momma) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, in Meeker, Colo.

Liz was born July 29, 1941, in Pawhuska, Okla. When Liz was a young girl, she and her family moved to Hayden, Colo.,where she grew up and was educated.
In 1960, Liz met the love of her life, Alfred Backes, and they were married in October of that year.
In 1965, Al and Liz moved to the Texaco Oilfield located on Wilson Creek with their two daughters, Karen and Judy, with the youngest, Stacie, making her appearance in 1971.
In 1978, the family relocated to town to their newly built house on Second Street, where Liz resided until her death.
Liz had a robust personality, a passion for politics being an active member of the Democratic Party, there wasn’t a yard sale or thrift store that went unvisited, late night scratch tickets were almost a passion as well as country music and the Denver Broncos.
Did someone say Bingo? She was there, throw in pull-tabs and it was a night of merriment.
Liz excelled in her role as a homemaker, which allowed her to enjoy her passion of baking cookies for the county fair with her granddaughter and making cakes for any occasion.
The pride she took in her home was noticed by any and all who visited. She loved nothing more than being a grandmother and mentor to her grandchildren; it was one of her greatest accomplishments.
A great source of enjoyment was connecting with people of all walks of life; she truly never met a stranger, which often times led to making many new friends. Her love of family was paramount in her life, whether it was in person or by phone.
Liz is survived by: her three daughters, Karen Landry (Jerry) of Washington, Mass., Judy Backes (BJ Carter) of Rifle, Colo., and Stacie Kincher (Fay) of Meeker, Colo.; six grandchildren: Douglas (Katie) Noel, Jesse (Becca) Noel, Dalton (Lauren) Noel, all of Cummington, Mass., and Forest Landry of East Hampton, Mass., Draven Carter of Rifle and Jennifer Kincher of Meeker, Colo.; four brothers; Edwin Hinkle (Big Red), Terrell Hinkle, Eldon Hinkle (Little Red) and Weldon Hinkle (Boy); and a sister, MaryGrace (Hinkle) Doolin. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, various relations in Oklahoma and Oregon; and many dear friends.
She is proceeded in death by: her beloved husband, Alfred (Al) Backes; her parents, Lee and Syvia Hinkle; brothers Phillip Hinkle, Darryll Hinkle, BobbyJoe Hinkle, Leslie Hinkle, Morris Hinkle and Russell Hinkle.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Meeker. Her final resting place will be next to her beloved husband, Alfred, at Highlands Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the American Heart Association in care of Grant Mortuary.
