Obituary: Marjorie Ann Hall ‘Vidakovich’ Lupton

Marjorie Lupton
Marjorie Lupton
Marjorie Ann Hall ‘Vidakovich’ Lupton passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013, after suffering for many years from Alzheimer’s disease. Marjorie was a long-time resident of Rangely, Colo., where she spent many years teaching at the elementary school level.
Marjorie ‘Marge’ experienced life coming into this world in a different way, by candlelight during the great Pueblo flood of 1921. From that point on, unique, different and life-challenging became this Colorado native’s middle name.
Experiencing the Great Depression, one of her greatest gifts was storytelling, and she told hundreds over the years of her fondest memories during her childhood in Mount Harris (near Steamboat Springs and Craig, Colo.), Pueblo and Denver. Those stories continued even after she became ill with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s as her long-term memory recalled her special days at East High School in Denver, Westtown School in Pennsylvania (Class of 1939), physical therapy training during World War II, her sorority sisters from college, her teaching career, and her many years of visits as a child to the cabin in Green Mountain Falls that her grandfather built and where she made her final home before her illness required a different kind of home.
Marge experienced many jobs over the years with fond memories as a Girl Scout leader of physical activities at summer camps, physical therapy rehabilitation during WWII, teaching at the elementary level for many years and, most importantly, being the mother of three children and the grandmother of one, HaleyAnn Michelle Broth (Hal and Lou Ann Broth). Being an only child, she was proud to raise Lynne Antonia Green (John), David Leigh Vidakovich (Penny) and Lou Ann Broth (Hal).
Cooking and reading were favorite pastimes for Marge. She had books as constant companions, sometimes reading two or three at one time. The kitchen became her long-time hobby over the years, ‘gourmet’ being the operative word for her cooking style.
Marge experienced life doing one of her favorite things, which was traveling. From Greece, Egypt, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, Mexico and many places at home, she experienced every minute of those travels learning about the culture, the people and, of course, the food along the way.
Mother never met a stranger and her many friends over the years were her family. She loved a party, and was so fortunate to have so many wonderful people in her life to share all the things she liked to do. One of those very special things was the game of bridge, and she was able to play the game often for more than 60 years.
Marge experienced storytelling once again in recent years, reliving those early years growing and the way it opened her eyes to the many opportunities that would fulfill her life, as she and Lou put those stories together in the form of scrap-booking. Lou will always treasure those times and the many stories that went with them.
Marge’s final journey was painful for those who loved her, but until the end she always had that sparkle in those beautiful blue eyes and the spunk to go out on her terms. She will be at eternal rest with her mother and father at Fairmount Mausoleum in Denver, a city she experienced for many years and a childhood address that she remembered up until the very end.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2315 Bott Ave., Colorado Springs, Colo., 80904.
