Maudie E. Childress

Maudie Ruckman Childress, 87, a resident of Monte Vista for 57 years, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in her home after an extended illness.
Maudie was one of nine children born to Tom and Emma Ruckman on their cattle ranch on the Meeker Massacre site near Meeker. Maudie loved the ranch work and was an accomplished horsewoman.
Maudie leaves a full legacy of always lending a helping hand when she was needed. She enjoyed serving in the Methodist Church. Maudie also enjoyed china painting, quilting, and gardening. Maudie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Maudie leaves behind her husband of 67 years, Jay Childress, two daughters, Janice (Randy) Knutson of Greeley and Jenna Childress (Jeff Hinkley) of Austin, Colo., sister, Emma Valentine of Nashville, Tenn., three grandsons, one granddaughter and five great-grandsons. Her family and many friends throughout the valley will sorely miss Maudie.
The family chose cremation. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Maudie’s life was held Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Monte Vista. Inurnment will be in Meeker Cemetery.
