RANGELY — Another very busy week was on tap for the Panthers.
Tuesday, the boys battled with Moffat County. The game was much closer than it should have been, with the Cats coming away with a 63-55 win.
The first half was not a very strong showing on either side of the ball as the visitors were on top with a 27-25 lead. The third period was better as Rangely went on a good run to take a 47-39 lead.
Both teams played evenly in the fourth. James Herrera had one point, Blake Mecham two, Roman Chavez four, Kanden Brady and Adam Dahl with nine, Michael Morton with 11 and Patrick Phelan with 27.
Friday the Panthers were scheduled to play North Park, but Mother Nature had her way and the game was rescheduled for Feb. 9.
Saturday, the Mustangs of West Grand were visitors to Rangely. Rangely allowed only two field goals in the first period and took a commanding 18-5 lead.
Foul trouble took its toll in the second period as the Mustangs went to the line eight times and converted on six of them.
Rangely still outscored them 16-15 to open up a 34-20 half time lead.
Rangely opened up an even larger lead in the third period, but then foul trouble put the Mustangs on the line again, they shot 15 more free-throws in the second half.
The final tally was 61-51.
On Tuesday, the boys beat Vail Christian 62-44 in a make-up game from December and then host Vail on Friday and Hayden on Saturday.
