RANGELY — After a first half where the Rangely Panthers JV boys were a little shaky at times, they managed to turn in a solid performance to cap off their season with a win Feb. 13.
The Plateau Valley Cowboys were intent on finishing their season strong as well and briefly led the game 14-12 at one point in the second quarter.
This is when the Panthers took advantage of some poor passing by the Cowboys and converted those turnovers into lay-ups on the other end.
By halftime the lead for Plateau Valley was no more, as the Panthers clawed their way to a 28-16 advantage.
The scoring continued in the second half as the Panthers put up 17 and 19 points in each of the last two quarters, never allowing the game to get within striking distance for the Cowboys.
The Panthers ended their season with a comfortable 64-41 victory.
This year’s JV team was short on numbers but got contributions from everyone in this game.
Mark Perzinski, a junior, led all scorers with 19 points, followed by the Denny brothers, Kacey and Kody, who had 17 and 16, respectively. Kacey is a sophomore, and Kody is a freshman.
Another freshman, Ethan Peacock, had 10 points for the Cats and sophomore Landon Mecham and freshman Doug Stephens also contributed.
