Meeker’s Kent Walter finished second in the 50-54 age division.
MEEKER I “The kid participation was up and the adult participation was down a little, but it was still a great event,” ERBM Recreation and Parks District coordinator Nicole Dupire said of the annual Road Rash Triathlon.
The two-day event featured 23 children competing Friday in three age divisions, three adults entered the Sprint Triathlon and nine entered in the Super-Sprint.

David Cropp of Fort Collins won the Sprint Triathlon, swimming 750 yards, biking 12 miles and running three miles in 1:28:41. Cropp was in the 50-54 age group, the only one contested in the adult divisions.
What made Cropp’s win more impressive was that for approximately the last two miles of the bike race, he was riding on two flat tires.
“I flooded them both, but it didn’t last too long,” Cropp said.
Meeker’s Kent Walter completed the three events in 1:33:50 in Cropp’s age division, and Merilee Slack finished the sprint triathlon in 1:52:23 in the 35-39 age division.
Meredith Deming, Mandi Etheridge and Mona Maser made up the only adult team in the annual Road Rash Triathlon, which started and ended in Paintbrush Park.

Everyone was a winner in the Super-Sprint since there was only one competitor in each age division. Racers swam 300 yards, biked six miles and ran 1.5 miles.
Todd Lucht (40-44), Rachel Murray (45-49) and Molly Meehan (30-34) each won their age divisions.
Meeker Mayor Mandy Etheridge, Meredith Deming and Mona Maser made up the only team entered. Etheridge was the swimmer, Deming the biker and Maser the runner on the championship team.
Natosha Clatterbaugh (35-39), Jennifer Miles (50-54) and Karl Maser (45-49) each won their age divisions.
Meeker Mayor Mandi Etheridge completed the swimming leg for the only adult team in the competition.

There were three age divisions in the Kids’ Triathlon, with different distances for each. The 7-8 racers swam 50 yards, biked two miles and ran one-half mile. The only difference for the 9-10 year olds was 50 more yards in the pool, but the children in the 11-12 group swam 150 yards, biked three miles and ran one mile.
