RANGELY — The Panthers struggled again this week against the Hayden Tigers.
Hayden defended its homecoming with a 47-7 win over Rangely. Hayden scored on three passes and four runs.
Most of the Tiger touchdowns came on long plays as Rangely had trouble matching their speed.
The defense did a better job stopping Hayden up the middle, but when they forced Hayden to the outside, the defense couldn’t keep up.
The top player for the Panthers was Travis Witherell who had 87 yards of offense running and receiving and 89 yards returning kicks. Witherell also made an excellent hit that set up Rangely’s only touchdown.
Witherell hit the return man with perfect timing forcing a fumble. The ball was gathered up by Logan Osborne and the Panthers remained on offense.
Kanden Brady then hit Witherell on a 10-yard pass play in the end zone for six points. Michael Morton added the PAT.
Kindal Cushman had another nice night punting the ball with an average of 35.8 yards and a long of 49. Rangely had 49 yards on the ground and 147 through the air but gave up 497 yards to the Tigers.
The next action for Rangely is our own homecoming against the Meeker Cowboys. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
