Ben Morgan met with a painful accident July 20 while lassoing an unbroke horse at the Morgan boys’ ranch.n Meeker will now have two blacksmith shops within its limits. Mr. JoHantgen, late of Leadville, arrived in the city on Saturday, and has begun the erection of a shop on the corner of Market and Fifth streets.

Commissioners Gregory and Morris Dreifuss returned from the Springs, the county seat, Thursday.n Special Deputy Sheriff Randall departed Tuesday for Glenwood with Volney Ames.

One of the really pretty spots in Meeker is the City Park along White River between Third and Fourth streets.

Miss Ann Sheridan became the bride of William Turner at a quiet wedding in Craig on Monday, July 3.n Mr. and Mrs. Bud Conrado announced the engagement of their daughter Miss Mary Ann Conrado to Jerry Seely, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Seely of Meeker.

Visions of “what could have been” were sealed up behind 2-1/2 feet of concrete this week as Northern Coal Company began its final shutdown activity.

Cliff and Eunice Cress of Meeker celebrated their silver wedding anniversary over the Fourth of July weekend.

Cliff Chapin received the rec. district’s volunteer award this year after being recognized for his services to the youth soccer program.

Charlie Johnson opened Charlie’s Leather Works and Wares at 610 Main St.

The White River Bakery will open late this month, according to owner Joe Clare, in the east side of the Fetterolf building on Main Street.

The Christian Church was the setting for a June wedding uniting Penny Burdick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Daggett of Rangely, and Scott Leech

A surprise bridal shower was given for Donna Dunn at the Chevron Rec Hall with Barbara Ducey and Betty Norman as the hostesses.

The Rangely Garden Club Award this week is in the yard of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Brown on Main Street.

Rangely’s Ed Johnson baseball team plays the winner of the Leadville-Gunnison game in the state tournament today. Coached by Jack Elder, the Rangely roster includes Rex Baker, Kelly Brown, Randy Burchett, Mike Clark, Paul Edwards, Bryan Fairchild, Todd Getz, Mark Hayden, Tom Haas, Ed Long, Jim Pacheco, Jerry Patton and Tom Staley.

The classes of 1955 and 1956 are holding a reunion this week.

The first ever Columbine Racing Association Paramutual Racing Meet concluded at Columbine Park this past weekend. During the four days of horse racing, attendance totaled approximately 2,000 people from Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Centrilift/Hughes, a division of Hughes Tool Co., announced the closure of their Rangely service center due to “continued downturn in business.”
