RBC I The Rio Blanco County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution to imposed a ban on open fires in the unincorporated areas of Rio Blanco County Monday last.
According to the resolution signed June 11, 2012, the commissioners have received evidence from the Sheriff’s Office, representatives of the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, that the fire danger throughout Rio Blanco County is high due to lack of precipitation and extremely hot and dry conditions.
Rio Blanco County Sheriff Si Woodruff is authorized to lift the ban and reimpose it from time to time as he determines conditions warrant.
The following day at their regular meeting, Town of Meeker trustees unanimously passed an emergency ordinance banning open fires and open burning, including the sale and use of fireworks, within the incorporated areas of the Town of Meeker, in order to prevent fires and loss of property given the current high fire danger.
Production type firework shows, like the annual Fourth of July fireworks display in Meeker, put on by trained personnel having standby emergency fire suppression present on site are exempted from the emergency ordinance.
