RANGELY I The Rangely High School Math Club meets weekly to learn how to solve interesting math problems as preparation for various math competitions.
Club members traveled to CSU Pueblo in November to participate in Math Day. Also in November, the math club students took the first round of the UNC math contest.
Of the 2,382 Colorado students who took the test, 179 advanced to the final round. William Scoggins and Andrew Morton of the math club qualified. Morton earned an honorable mention by finishing in the top 52.
In February the club traveled to Colorado Mesa University for the Math Extravaganza, a full day of math activities, a campus tour and to hear a guest speaker.
Approximately 150 students from Western Slope high schools attended the event, all students took a quiz on what they had learned and Morton turned in the only perfect paper.
