RBC | Colorado State Sen. Randy Baumgardner (R) could face disciplinary action for sexual harassment allegations made by a legislative aide. The aide, who wishes to remain anonymous, filed a formal complaint in November 2017. On Feb. 1 the Denver Post reported that an outside investigation deemed the complaints “credible” and suggested there should be a consequence.
An intern who came forward first with allegations of inappropriate comments and behavior in November, as reported by public radio station KUNC, declined to file a formal complaint.
It will now be up to Senate President Kevin Grantham, Senate Majority Leader Chris Holbert and Minority Leader Lucia Guzman to determine any disciplinary action, a process which could end with a reprimand, censure or expulsion. Complaints have been made about three other state legislators, prompting leaders of the General Assembly to order a review of workplace policy on sexual harassment.
Baumgardner represents Senate District 8 which encompasses Garfield, Grand, Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt and Summit counties. He was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 2008, to the State Senate in 2012, and lost a primary bid for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
