‘I Ride With James’…

More than 100 riders took part in the ride and poker run despite a lack of snow at the base camp at  Lost Creek Trailhead. The event is in memory of Mike and Kathy Sizemore’s son, James, who was killed Feb. 20, 2011, in an avalanche on nearby Sand Peak.

MEEKER I The Fourth Annual “I Ride with James” Poker and Snowmobile Ride will be held Sunday to help support the James Sizemore Memorial Scholarships and Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue.

‘I Ride with James’ benefit ride Feb. 15

The fourth annual “I Ride with James” Poker and Snowmobile Ride will be held Feb. 15 to support the James Sizemore Memorial Scholarships and Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue. Beginning at 10 a.m., snowmobilers should meet at the Lost Creek Trailhead at the end of County Road 8. First place for the poker run is $1,000, second place pays $500 and third place wins $250. Grand prize is a brand new Polaris 120 kids’ sled.

While the snowmobilers were busy with the third annual “I Ride With James” Poker and Snowmobile Ride on Sunday, some folks took time out to go sledding, taking advantage of a steep slope on the opposite side from the Lost Creek Trailhead, about 31 miles up County Road 8.

135 join in poker, snowmobile ride

About 135 snowmobile riders get ready for the poker run to begin.

MEEKER I Roughly 135 sleds, several with more than one rider, took part in the third annual “I Ride with James” Poker and Snowmobile Ride on Sunday, raising funds for the James Sizemore Memorial Scholarships and for Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue.
