Scholarships available for small business workshop; purpose is to assist growth

RBC I Rio Blanco County, the Town of Meeker, private investors and Meeker Chamber of Commerce are offering scholarships for area business owners who are interested in attending an intensive workshop to assist small business owners helping to transform their business and their community, into a destination location.

Eskelsons expanding Bowstrings business

Rocky Mountain Bowstrings, owned by Jeff and Kristen Eskelson of Meeker, is nearing completion on a new building located at 178 Main Street in Meeker. The 6,000-square-foot building will be used primarily to expand the Eskelsons’ growing bowstring business.

MEEKER I Jeff and Kristen Eskelson purchased Rocky Mountain Bowstrings, Inc., from Bill and Erma Rucker in 2010, and since then the business has continued to thrive and grow.

Art co-op is in works in Meeker

Jill and Dale Dunbar, on the right, address a gathering of folks interested in the establishment of a Meeker artisans’ cooperative gallery on Main Street in Meeker. The group, which met Nov. 19 in the proposed space, included former Meeker Mayor Steve Loshbaugh and his wife, Avis, now with the Rio Blanco County Historical Society, on the left. The Smoking River Studio Arts Gallery is expected to open by May 1.

MEEKER I Longtime Meeker resident Jill Dunbar and her native Meeker husband, Dale Dunbar, have been dreaming and traveling. In their travels, they’ve investigated several small town artisan co-operatives that seem to be doing well and which promote and sell largely local works of art and fine crafts.

New Meeker B&B…

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday evening for the new Bear Mountain Inn Bed & Breakfast in Meeker; the site is the location of what was the Rambullinn at 789 8th St., formerly owned by Gus and Christine Halandras. Cheryl and Dale Houser are the new owners of the bed and breakfast, and they report good occupancy already during the hunting season. Business leaders’ luncheon…

From left, Rio Blanco County Economic Development Coordinator Katelin Cook, Commissioner Shawn Bolton and Blake Mobley, the IT coordinator for the county, gave presentations Friday afternoon at The Mexican House during a Meeker Chamber of Commerce-sponsored business leaders’ luncheon, offering updates on county economic development, broadband and other county activities. Roughly 20 people took part in the meeting.

Meeker marks small business week locally

MEEKER I Next week is National Small Business Week, and the Meeker Chamber of Commerce is trying to help local small businesses with reminders to town and area residents of the importance of shopping at home while supporting out local small-town businesses.
