Three suspects arrested after woman assaulted on Hwy. 64

RBC — A motorist contacted Deputy Adam Wade at 5:42 p.m. May 20 with concerns about a possible domestic violence situation in progress in a red Ford F-350 truck bearing a Texas license plate headed eastbound on Highway 64 towards Meeker.
Deputy Wade located the suspect vehicle and stopped the truck at 66500 Hwy. 64. Upon contacting the driver, Loyd W. Kelly, 27, of Buffalo, Texas, Deputy Wade observed both the driver’s and passenger Bobby R. Tubb’s, 35, of Pryor, Okla., arms and hands were covered in blood. Both suspects claimed that they were fighting each other and that no one else had been in the vehicle.
While Deputy Wade was speaking to the suspects in the truck, the Rio Blanco County Communications Center received a 911 call from a woman stating she had been assaulted in the truck that Deputy Wade had just stopped. The woman also stated that she was hurt and needed help. Deputy Wade took both male suspects into custody and headed west on Highway 64 approximately 4 1/2 miles to the victim’s location.
Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue, along with additional sheriff’s deputies, were dispatched to the victim’s location. Deputy Wade spotted the victim on the side of the road at mile marker 62 on Highway 64. She had scrapes, bruises and was covered in blood. The victim was transported to Pioneers Medical Center where she was treated and released.
According to the victim, she and the three men who were in the truck recently arrived in Meeker looking for work in the oil field. While in the truck, one of the men assaulted her and when she resisted, she was struck in the face and body. When Kelly stopped the truck, the victim and the third male got out of the vehicle. As Kelly drove away, the third male ran off, leaving the female victim alone on the side of the road.
The third male suspect, identified as Raul L. Gomez, 54, of Colorado Springs, Colo., not only had an active felony warrant for parole violation with the Colorado Department of Corrections, but also has an extensive criminal history which includes violent assaults, weapons offenses, assaults on police officers, attempted homicide, dangerous drugs and numerous misdemeanors.
The sheriff’s office activated the reverse 911 system, notifying residents along Highway 64 between Highway 13 and County Road 5 as well as two additional county roads in the area, of Gomez’s description and advised residents to call the sheriff’s office if he was spotted.
Deputies, Meeker Police officers, Colorado State Patrol troopers and Colorado Division of Wildlife officers conducted a house to house search for Gomez in the reverse 911 call area.
Gomez was located hiding near the White River approximately 1 1/2 miles east of the victim’s location and was arrested without incident by a sheriff’s deputy and two troopers at 8:15 p.m.
All three male suspects were transported and booked into the Rio Blanco County Detention Center. Kelly was charged with accessory to a crime and obstructing police. Tubb was charged with second degree assault, false imprisonment and obstructing police. Gomez was charged with accessory to a crime and was held on a no bond parole violation.
In additional recent activity, Sergeant Patrick Darrow responded to Pioneers Medical Center May 24 at 9:32 p.m. after receiving a report of an injury accident involving an all terrain vehicle (ATV). Sgt. Darrow determined that the operator, Roger Jones, 38, of Bristow, Okla., was climbing a hill at approximately 1500 Forest Service Rd. 215 when the ATV struck a log and began to flip over backward. Jones attempted to jump clear of the ATV, but the ATV rolled over him. A third party drove Jones to Pioneers Medical Center for a dislocated elbow. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
Sergeant Roy Kinney assisted the Colorado State Patrol with an injury accident at 43500 Highway 64 at 1:03 p.m. A 16-year-old seatbelted male driving a Dodge Dakota truck received minor injuries in a single vehicle rollover accident. The driver was transported to Rangely District Hospital for treatment.
Deputy Travis Mobley also assisted the Colorado State Patrol with a property damage accident at 100 County Rd. 20 at 1:04 p.m. The seatbelted driver, Joshua Hill, 37, of Magna, Utah, was not injured when he rolled the 2009 Chevrolet he was driving.
