Tony Theos named Colo.

MEEKER — The Colorado Wool Growers 81st annual convention was held July 22-24 in Keystone, Colo., and outgoing president Joe Sperry (Delta) was replaced by president-elect Anthony (Tony) Theos.
Tony is a fourth generation sheep rancher from Meeker; and follows in his father’s footsteps both in ranching and in assuming the Colorado Wool Growers Association (CWGA) presidency. Angelo Theos was the CWGA president from 1987-1989. CWGA Executive Director Bonnie Kline stated, “The Colorado Wool Growers and the Colorado sheep industry as a whole have benefited from a long history of outstanding individuals serving as association presidents. It’s exciting to have Anthony lead the organization forward because of his knowledge of and enthusiasm for the sheep industry.” Tony grew up on his family’s sheep outfit in Meeker and is instrumental in managing his family’s 4,000-head sheep ranch. In addition to serving as the current Colorado Wool Growers Association president, Tony is also serving on the board of directors for the American Wool Council.
Recognizing that changing societal values and politics puts a tremendous amount of pressure on family farmers and ranchers struggling to survive, Tony has been actively involved in industry regulatory and political issues for the past several years, and emphasizes the importance of producers working together.
