Total calls for service increased 6.82 percent in August over 2007

RBC — In a report released by the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s office, the number of incidents for August 2008 increased 6.82 percent over August 2007 totals, with 1,095 incidents this August up from 1,025 incidents last August.
RBC sheriff’s office calls for service increased from 264 in August 2007 to 304 in August 2008, with traffic stops showing a slight decrease from 465 stops in August 2007 to 444 stops in August 2008.
The Meeker Police Department’s calls for service increased from 195 in August 2007 to 243 in August 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. nearly doubled from 26 stops in August 2007 to 51 in August 2008.
The total numbers for the most noteworthy incidents in August 2008 for both the sheriff’s office and the Meeker P.D. were as follows: 495 traffic stops; 71 VIN inspections; 44 animal calls; 40 suspicious incidents; 39 traffic complaints; 31 motorists assists; 24 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 22 accidents with property damage; 20 disturbances; 18 warrant arrests; 17 thefts; 17 traffic arrests; 13 citizen assists; 11 fire calls; 10 DUIs; nine civil situations; nine criminal mischief cases; eight juvenile problems; six harassment cases; six trespass cases; five burglaries; five narcotics cases; four hit and run accidents; four fraud cases; three assaults; two injury accidents; one case of domestic violence; one plane crash and one search and rescue.
The Rio Blanco County Detention Center had an average daily inmate population of 20.16 inmates in August 2008, of those 18.19 were male inmates and 1.97 were female inmates.
Eighty-four people were booked into the detention center in August 2008 with 72 people jailed and 12 people booked and released. The detention center also served 1,644 meals during August 2008.
A traffic flow study was conducted by the RBC sheriff’s office and the Colorado State Patrol during a 24-hour period on June 25 at mile marker 57 Highway 64 near Meeker. The results released with the August report showed that 643 truck/trailers passed that mile marker in that one day with 88 trucks or 14 percent carrying hazardous materials loads. The breakdown for the hazardous materials transported during the study period were 49 trucks carrying Class 3 flammable loads; 32 trucks carrying Class 2 flammable gas/non-flammable gas/oxygen loads; four trucks carrying Class 8 corrosive loads; two trucks carrying unknown class loads and one truck carrying a radioactive load.
In recent activity, Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Wade responded to an injury accident on Oct. 16 at 5:18 p.m. involving a motorcycle at 28500 Highway 64 near Rangely. Jason Dyck, 38, of Northglenn, Colo., suffered moderate injuries in the accident. Rangely fire, ambulance and police department personnel assisted at the accident scene. Dyck was transported to Rangely District Hospital and then airlifted by Careflight to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident.
