Joe Dungan of Meeker, the veterans’ service officer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Meeker, spoke to roughly 150 people late Monday morning during the VFW’s Veterans Day service next to the Rio Blanco County Veteran’s Memorial in front of the county courthouse. Dungan thanked all veterans, past and current, and made special mention of those who did not return home due to their still being prisoners of war, those who may have died as POWs and those missing in action.

Prior to Monday’s late-morning service honoring Veterans Day, a number of local veterans gathered around the Rio Blanco County Veterans Memorial on the lawn of the county courthouse in Meeker. The group represents many years of service to the United States military. The VFW-sponsored event honored military veterans from past and current times and those who never returned home due to being possible prisoners of war or those who went missing in action.
