MEEKER | Meeker Cowboy volleyball hasn’t seen a team this big quite possibly in forever. With 48 girls on the team, head coach Greg Cravens says, “It is a great ‘problem’ to have.”

Assistant coach Kaylene Turner will be leading the JV team once again and Clea Steerman will be working with the C and this year D teams.
“We will be working on the schedule and trying to get as many D team games added as we can,” commented Cravens. “There is a lot of talent on the team, and the more time they can see the court, the better for all of us.”
With so many girls the teams are able to scrimmage in house and will not be hosting a formal scrimmage with another town.
“Our first game is this Thursday, and we have been able to live scrimmage as much as we can leading up to it,” said Cravens.
This year’s senior class is large with eight girls on the team. Returning starters Ainsley Selle and Ellie Hossack alongside returning varsity Natalie Kracht and Jayda May are joined by Shyanna Kurth, Emily Hamm, Celine Lozano and Larissa Richardson.
“I am pleasantly surprised that we are playing at the level we are this early in the season,” said Cravens. “I truly believe we have girls that we can make into superstars someday.”
The Cowboys will open their 2023 schedule this Thursday at 4 p.m. against Plateau Valley. The first game of the season is also the first home game of the season.
Next weekend they have back-to-back home games Thursday and Friday.
