Letter: Thanks for attending, helping with LDS luau

A touch of island culture and dancing was enjoyed by all that attended the luau on June 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our community has been blessed with island people that are so willing to share their culture, laughter and warmth. We all enjoyed the dances from the different islands such as Hawaii, Tonga, Polynesia, etc. We had a culture lesson on how to open a coconut and the legend of why a coconut has a face.
We would love to thank those people who came out to our luau. We would like to send a special thanks to Angel Mataia for being our emcee, and Pearl, Emi and Alema Atoafa for teaching us the island dancing. Having learned the dances, the young and old joined in the dancing. What a great time was had by all.
Special thanks to Bishop Scott Isenhour, Fuea Mataia, and the Richardson family for cooking our pig and chicken, and all others who participated through dancing, decorating and providing salads and desserts. We were blessed during the evening as the rain held off during our luau.
