The Meeker Herald — 90 years ago
• Two Meeker citizens were honored in connection with the Governor Cox notification ceremonies. They were John A. Watson and E. H. Sexson.
• At the Republican County Assembly: “They are still talking of reopening the Colorado Midland Railway.”
• Edmund Pauls still wears the belt as the champion big trout catcher of White River. He landed another 10-pounder this week. He hooked him up in the canyon.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• Rio Blanco County valuation drops over $7 million in ’60.
• All schools in Meeker School District Re-1 will be ready for opening Sept. 6. New courses this year in the high school are world geography, French and biology 2. The junior high school will offer arts and crafts to all students this coming year.
• “Some people remind me of tape recorders — unable to think, they simply play back what they have just heard.”

The Meeker Herald — 25 years ago
• Successful fair concluded with $60,158 livestock sale.
• Steven Cordero’s future now lies in the hands of the 12-member Garfield County jury following a 10-day trial in which the D.A.’s office attempted to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Cordero had deliberately shot and killed Gordon Lightfoot last Nov. 4.
• This year’s grand champion market steer was owned by Ladd Klinglesmith. Champion gelding quarter horse honors when to Rosemary Hilkey, whill Kelly Conrado owned the champion quarter horse and champion mare other breeds. Kathy Nelson had the grand champion lamb. Becky Watt was the champion in the Bo Peep division of the Ladies’ Lead.
• Jean Welder completed her yoga teachers’ certification courses at the Yoga and Fitness center in Denver.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• Several buildings were burned to the ground at the home of S.W. McLaughlin three miles west of Rangely in a fire of undetermined origin.
• Weather review: Aug. 22, 1960 high temperature 85 degrees, low temperature 55 degrees.
• At the Rangely Exchange general merchandise store: Back-to-school dresses, Buster Brown shoes, Wrangler jeans in new wheat color, Dickies jeans ideal clothing for boys.
• Gordon Frederick Byers and Sheryl Ann Swanson were issued a marriage license Tuesday in Grand Junction.

Rangely Times — 30 years ago
• Total enrollment in Rangely Re-4 schools was 539 as of Aug. 26, 1980.
• The weather: Aug. 25, 1980 high temperature 60 degrees, low temperature 33 degrees.
• Patti Mitchem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mitchem, has been awarded $1,000 as recipient of the Governor’s Purchase Award for the 1980 Illinois State Fair Professional Art Show.
• VA and FHA interest rates increased to 12 percent and 12.5 percent, plus conventional rates shooting back up over 13 percent.

Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• The crowd that gathered for Rangely Hospital’s board meeting had their say for finding a way for all three resident physicians to get along and stay in Rangely, or more specifically, that the contract of Dr. Kent Black be renewed. The hospital opted not to renew Dr. Black’s contract on Black’s refusal to participate in the “impaired physician’s” program.
