MHS competes in Wells event

MEEKER — Last Friday the Meeker High School track team traveled to Moffat County High School to take part in the Clint Wells Invitational.
Wells is a world-class distance runner who was graduated from Moffat County in the early ‘90s.
Sixteen teams battled each other and a cold wind from noon until 6:30 p.m.
The girls medley relay team of Gabie Goettel, Kelsey Rundberg, Sydney Cook and Kelsey Kendall placed eighth followed by the 4×800 relay of Terrence Casias, Sam Love, Seth Boesch and Brock Campbell who ran their second fastest time of the year to place third.
Sophomore Timbre Shriver and Senior Tyler Howey both ran strong 100- and 110-meter hurdle races to each place eighth. Marki Cook ran another stellar race in the 100-meter but was nipped at the finish line by 1/100th of a second by Moffat County track star Eri Verbonoski. Cook easily qualified for the state track meet, however.
Cook, Kelsey Rundberg, Timbre Shriver and Janae Kindall ran a strong 4×200 relay to claim third place, and the boys’ team of Brock Campbell, Joseph Galvan, Terrence Casias and Jake Nieslanik placed sixth.
Forty guys competed in the 1600-meter run and freshman Cameron Stranathan and senior Carlin Daggett came in 12th and 14th overall, respectively.
The same four girls who ran the 4×200 also placed third in the 4×100 relay behind Rifle and Moffat County.
Kelsey Rundberg and Joseph Galvan each placed eighth in strong 400-meter fields.
Timbre Shriver just missed scoring points in the 300-meter low hurdles.
Teammates Brock Campbell and Sam Love placed third and seventh, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
Janae Kindall claimed eighth place in a large 200-meter field and Sydney Cook, Devin Buckendorf, Adea Comeau and Laura Glass placed eighth in the 4×400 meter relay. The boys’ team of Terrence Casias, Sam Love, Seth Boesch and Cameron Stranathan ran to a sixth-place finish.
In the field events, Dakota Rowlette had a personal record in the high jump leaping 6 feet to win the event, Joseph Galvan tied for sixth. Meg Nieslanik and Janae Kindall went one and two in the triple jump; Nieslanik had a season PR of 31-1/2.
Gabie Goettel made finals and just failed to place. Nieslanik and Sydney Cook tied for sixth place in the high jump.
Freshman Chanler May and junior Jamie Gillis had PRs in the shot put and Shawnie Gerloff also threw her best in the discus placing fifth with a throw of 87.
Johnny Wix had another great day taking second in both throws. He threw 45-1 in the shot and 134 in the discus.
Senior standout J.T. Haddan of Moffat County broke his school record and has one of the leading throws in the state going more than 52 feet. He also recorded a discus throw of 152 feet.
