Chinn, girls 4×800 set school records as Meeker wraps season at state

MEEKER |  The Meeker High School track and field team wrapped up its season at the Colorado State Track and Field Championships, held May 14-16 at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, with several top-10 finishes and podium performances in the throwing events.

For the boys, junior Tucker Chinn led the Cowboys with a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, running 41.94 seconds in the prelims—where he also broke the school record—before placing fourth in the finals in 41.96.

The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Jake Grieser, Lawson Anderson, Holton Harvey and Sam Smithers placed 16th in 46.29. The same group finished 15th in the 4×200-meter relay prelims in 1:35.93.

In the high jump, Grieser placed 18th with a clearance of 5 feet, 8 inches.

For the girls, senior Braydin Raley placed 12th in the 800 meters in 2:26.40.

The 4×100-meter relay team of McKenna Berthelson, Julie Kracht, Raegan Clatterbaugh and Norah Loar placed 14th in the prelims in 52.67.

The girls 4×800-meter relay team of junior Josey McClain, freshman Tinlie Strate, freshman Midy Camargo and senior Braydin Raley placed seventh in the state finals in 10:16.41, setting a new school record in the process.

In the field events, sophomore Hailey Schwartz placed sixth in the triple jump at 33 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

Senior Addie Knowles earned a third-place podium finish in the discus with a throw of 118 feet, 9 inches. Freshman Raegan Clatterbaugh also earned a podium finish in the discus, placing sixth with a throw of 110 feet, 11 inches.

Knowles also placed ninth in the pole vault at 8 feet, 4 inches and 12th in the shot put at 31 feet, 5 1/4 inches.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls concluded their season with multiple state finalists and podium finishes in the throwing events.
