Rangely Jr. High Track & Field

RMS hosts area teams for track meet

RANGELY — Rangely Middle School track team had its first and only home track meet Saturday, April 26. Participating schools were Meeker, Craig and Hayden.
The temperature was chilly, but the sun shone brightly. Many Rangely Panthers were competing in Denver for Discovery Institute, so the team was small but mighty.
Seventh graders Tobie Gasper, Colton Coombs and Chas Byerly placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-meter dash with times of 13:6, 14:14 and 14:37.
Tobie Gasper placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28:45.
The seventh-grade boys also did well in the 100-meter hurdles, taking second, third and fourth place in that event.
Coombs ran the 100 hurdles in 19:3, Byerly in 19:43 and Stults in 20:5. In field events, Byerly took second place with a jump of 14-2. Coombs took first in shot put, with a throw of 31-8.
The seventh-grade girls competed exceptionally well, with Quincey Thacker taking third in the 100 dash with a time of 15:31, and Myriah Merino taking fourth with a time of 15:25. Merino also placed third in the 200 dash with a time of 30:92.
In field events, Merino earned first place with a jump of 11-11 1/2, and Thacker took second place with a jump of 11-10 1/2.
Rangely’s eighth-graders also worked hard to win events. Ethan Peacock won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16:65. Kody Denny placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes 28 seconds. In the 400-meter relay, Denny, Tobie Gasper, Gabe Garcia and Peacock took second with a time of 53:27.
In field events, Jake Smith earned third place in shot put with a throw of 31-2. Peacock took first place in the long jump with a jump of 16-9. Denny took second place in the triple jump with a jump of 29-11.
Rangely had no eighth-grade girls compete.
Rangely will travel to Steamboat Springs Saturday, May 3 for its last track meet of the season. Good luck Panthers!
