Outstanding competition at Main Street Madness

Rangely’s Audrey Hogan, Victoria Phelan and Kelsey Harvey came Meeker to compete in the first annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament which was organized by Meeker Chamber of Commerce intern Marki Cook.

MEEKER I The first annual Main Street Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament was a huge success for the Meeker Chamber of Commerce. Nearly 30 teams competed in four divisions.
The open men’s division had the best participation with 10 teams competing for bragging rights. The players ranged in age from 17 to over-30 and the competition was outstanding. The team of Tyrel Gerloff of Meeker, Patrick Phelan of Rangely and Tyler VanOort of Rye won the division with local team Bryce Ducey, Casey Sullivan and Andy Coryell coming in second.
The high school boys’ division nearly filled a bracket with seven teams from Meeker, Rangely and Grand Junction competing. The local team of Trey Morris, Toby Casias, Dylan Mobley and Raul Lopez won the division.
The open women’s division had seven teams as well after moving one local high school team up to play the older group. The division had teams representing each of the last three decades. The team composed of three 2009 all-state players, Marki Cook and Janae Kindall from Meeker and Holli Salazar from Hayden, won the division. Meeker’s young team of Taylor Neilson, Piper Haney, Aly Ridings and Sydney Hughes took second place. The middle school boys’ and girls’ teams combined to play in one bracket and the boys’ team from Craig beat the girls’ team from Hayden as well as the boys’ team from Meeker. Participants were each given a T-shirt and guaranteed two games for their registration fee. The competition was consistent in each division.
The chamber looks forward to the second annual tournament next year. Thank you to all the chamber board members who volunteered to help with the tournament and Marki Cook and Kaitlyn Cook for their work with the event. The chamber would like to thank everyone who participated and invite you all back next year.
