Nine cars participated in the first annual Rio Blanco County Fair Car Show on Saturday Aug. 6. The goal was to have ten cars attend. 4-H members who helped were Del Garner, AJ Garner, Kaylee Mecham, Landon Mecham, Layne Mecham, Raelynn Norman and Torie Slagle kept a count of the people who came to view the cars. They counted approximately 205 people who attended. The car owners enjoyed being able to watch the rodeo during the car show and liked having the Lions Club barbecue after they were finished. After surveying the participants about the location of the show Joe Holeyfield commented “this is the best place for it” and David Cassavaugh said that “it could be moved to the other side of the grandstands close to the road and bridge building so that it is easily seen from Sulphur Creek Road.” All but one car owner stated that they would be interested in coming next year and they would tell their friends about it. Bill Wille of Antler Taxidermy was asked to help with the car show for 2012, and he accepted. Financially, the votes were literally rolling in — 630 votes, which was $630 — in three hours. Some small trophies for class winners were purchased but most of this will be profit because the people’s choice prize money was donated.
