Christine Smith named artist of the month

RANGELY — The Rangely Arts Council and the Rangely Public Library are pleased to present Christine Y. Smith as the artist of the month for March.
“I try to capture the uniqueness of my surroundings that many people take for granted,” Smith said.
Smith was raised in Cortez, Colo., and now lives in Vernal. She said mountains, fields and even desert areas have always been a part of her life.
“Since I live a few miles from town proper, many of my images are taken, quite literally, from out my back door or just down the road,” she said.
Smith works in the Western Heritage Museum that not only displays relics and memories of the settlers of the area but also offers monthly art shows that focus primarily on the many fine artists in the community. She is the chairperson of visual arts for Uintah Arts Council and she enjoys the activities and events of the medieval re-creation organization, the S.C.A.
Her photography has been displayed in the Springville Museum of Art (Springville, Utah), Freedom Gallery (Provo, Utah), Woodbury Gallery (Orem, Utah), Planet Earth and the 4 Directions Gallery (Grand Junction) and several private collections.
