Hollowed named to dean’s roll
MEEKER — Elizabeth Hollowed has been named to the 2007 fall semester academic dean’s and freshman honor roll. The honor roll consists of undergraduates above freshman standing who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average and freshman who have earned a 3.25 or better grade point average. Students must also have been enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours taken for letter grades.
Dillon makes fall dean’s list
RANGELY — Rosalind Eileen Dillon, a freshman Pre-med major at the University of Colorado, Boulder has made the College of Arts and Sciences dean’s list for fall semester 2007. The dean’s list requires that a student hold a 3.75 or better GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of coursework for the given semester. This achievement ranks Rosalind among the top students at CU.

Veterans’ care
program extended
RBC — Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom veterans special access to the Veteran’s Affairs Medical System has been extended to five years after honorable discharge under an act President Bush signed this week. Previously, these veterans were limited to two years care after discharge unless they were otherwise qualified for care by VA medical providers.
For instance, if an OIF/OEF veteran received an honorable discharge in March 2005, his special access would have expired in March 2007.
Under the new law, that same veteran’s special access would not expire until March 2010.
Oil Shale open house Feb. 14
MEEKER — The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled an open house public meeting to provide information on the Draft Resource Management Plan amendments and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (Draft PEIS) for oil shale and tar sands resources in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.
The open house in Meeker will be held Feb. 14 (not Feb. 1, as incorrectly published in last week’s Herald Times), in the community room in Mountain Valley Bank, 400 Main Street, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Sportsman’s Club meets tonight
MEEKER — Meeker Sportsman’s Club will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Kilowatt Korner at 233 Sixth St. New members welcomed. Members from 2007 should plan to attend to renew their membership for 2008.

Rangely Arts Council presents special Valentine’s concert
RANGELY — You are invited to spend part of your romantic evening with us at the Rangely High School auditorium enjoying the enchanting music of the group Bond. The lovely ladies that comprise this classic string quartet play in fusion with new age musicians to produce one of the most unique styles of music ever. The show will commence Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. and will last about an hour. A special door prize will be given to the first 20 couples that arrive.
“Home of” 411
RANGELY — Karen and Roger Reed of Rangely are this week’s “home of” honorees. The Reeds moved here in 2008. They celebrated 14 years of marriage in October.
Roger is a certified public accountant. He works for Colorado CPA Services.
Karen is a real estate broker. She owns Raven Realty. Her office will be in its new location at 117 W. Main, Rangely, in a couple months.
Roger has three children: son James Reed of Rangely, daughter Tanja Saunders of Texas and son Rueben Reed lives in Seattle, Wash. Roger also has five grandchildren.
Karen’s three sons live at home. Joel Dorsey attends CNCC and Joshua Dorsey and Jeremiah Dorsey are Rangely High School students.
The family is very active in the Rangely Assembly of God Church. They lead the worship service with Karen playing the piano, Roger singing and Karen’s sons playing the guitar, bass guitar and drums.
When asked what she likes most about Rangely, Karen’s response was, “It’s a small town, not a big city, with a very friendly atmosphere, a great place!”
