Jock Waylon Thacker appeared in Rio Blanco County Court April 13 after being arrested yesterday, charged with Robbery and Theft (both Class IV felonies) of Mountain Valley Bank in Meeker.
A request by deputy public defender Sara Steele for Thacker to be released on a personal recognizance bond was denied by Judge Gail Nichols after deputy district attorney Gene Tardy said Thacker had felony charges in Louisiana and requested the bond remain at $10,000.
On April 12, a reverse 911 call described a white male, curly brown hair, wearing a cowboy hat, cowboy boots and spurs had robbed Mountain Valley Bank. Meeker Police Chief Bob Hervey and officer James Amick arrived at the scene immediately and were joined by Rio Blanco County under sheriff Mike Joos and other deputies, along with the Colorado State Patrol.
Thacker would later surrender without incident, after crossing the White River near Circle Park in Meeker.
A cowboy hat fitting the description and a note on the back of a receipt from Jackson’s Office Supply were later found in a trash can on Main Street. According to an affidavit by apprehending officer Lt. Phil Stubblefield of the Meeker Police Department, the note read, “Don’t be crazy take the money out of your register and place it on the counter and no one get hurt.”
Thacker will be arraigned April 27.
