Playoff decides Lischke

MEEKER I The Lischke Memorial golf tournament is one of the only individual tournaments of the year at the Meeker Golf Course. Each golfer is on his own – no partners. The best golfer and a three-hole playoff was needed to determine the champion in the championship flight last weekend, which featured 14 golfers.
Local Pat Hughes led after the first day, playing the first 18 holes at two-over par 70, one shot ahead of Mark Barlau and three shots ahead of Cole Manupella, with whom Hughes would have the playoff with after Sunday’s round.
Manupella, who is from Glenwood Springs, took four shots off his first 18 holes and finished with a one-over-par 69, while Hughes added two strokes to his score from Saturday, forcing the playoff.
Both golfers remained tied after the first two holes and it was Manupella who came up with a birdie putt on three to win the title. Hughes took first place with the best net score, Dave Sorel had the second best gross score at 145 and Barlau finished third, one shot behind Sorel.
Meeker locals fared well as Bobby Castaldo finished with the second best net score (126) in the first flight and Bill de Vergie finished third, seven shots back.
Ash Durrett of Glenwood Springs finished with the best gross score (162) in the second flight, in a field of 13. Meeker’s Clint Chappell placed second with a gross score of 165 and local fishing guide Ted Relihan finished with the third best gross score (174) in the second flight.
Rifle’s Mitoh Carter turned in the best net score (123) in the second flight, where Meeker locals Dave Henderson finished second (130) and Greg Ackerman third with a net score of 139.
The next tournament at the Meeker Golf Course will be the annual junior golf tournament on July 30.
