Art contest entries on display

MEEKER I Fifty exciting Meeker Classic art contest entries are now on display at Wendll’s Wondrous Things.
Art committee chairperson Mary Frances Coryell said, “This year, my goal was to increase our volume of excellent quality and we have far exceeded my expectations. There are many exceptional pieces with a ton of creativity and detail. I am super excited about our show and auction!”
The contest received 78 entries from across the U.S. and Canada. Due to Wilber Barn’s space limitations, judge Chris Oldland Uphoff, with difficulty, pared them to 50.
Winners selected by Uphoff will be announced at the art social at the Wilber Barn on Sept. 6 between 5-7 p.m. The winner will be awarded $2,000, and that artwork will be used for the 2013 poster and souvenir items. Second place will receive $650, and The Shirlee Coy Best of NW Colorado, sponsored by Shirlee’s family, will receive $250.
The People’s Choice Award is $350. Those attending the art social may vote for the entry they think will make the best poster for 2013. The art social, sponsored by Ladder Canyon Ranch, is free and open to the public. The air is charged with excitement as people make last minute decisions and race to the ballot box. Bids for the silent auction may also be placed. If you cannot join the fun at the social, vote for your favorite choice for the 2013 poster at Wendll’s by asking for a ballot.
